- This Mugg was created for and entered into the Mighty Muggs Forum, Mugg Showdown VI competition, coming in at a respectable 2nd place behind Dr Mugg's amazing masterpiece, Quick Kick. I wanted to create an iconic Gi Joe character, and Serpentor seemed an obvious choice. Because Hasbro had already released test shot images of a Serpentor Mugg, I wanted to stay away from that appearance. Instead I chose what I thought was the coolest Serpentor look, and that was his Marvel Comics 1st appearance. During this series of issues, he dragged his body from the vat where he was created, draped himself in a robe, smashed the glass to an ancient (snake) warrior's helmet, and proceeded to lead a succesul retreat for Cobra where they might have otherwise been wiped out by the Joes. This was a truly inspiring and frightening Serpentor, not a 'This I command' yelling buffoon from the cartoon, who was really only marginally more succesful than Cobra Commander's own tenure as the bungling terrorist leader.
- The Serpentor helmet was made using a Mola Ram head piece, with extensive sculpting. The snake mouth was entirtely sculpted over a custom wire frame. The cobra hood was partly from another toy, but needed a huge amount of sculpting to make sure it attached and blended with the helmet, plus it only came half way down the helmet, so the bottom half of each side needed sculpting from scratch.
- The knife was made from a Mutt Williams sword, with the hilt removed, and the blade cut down and reattached. It was painted to look like it had been heated over a flame to cauterise a bullet wound, which is what happened in the comic.
- about 10 hours from concept to protective coat.
